Cumberlands Moves into Top 10 at NAIA Women's Track & Field Championship

MARION, Ind. -- Cumberlands (Ky.) is tied for 10th and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is tied for 47th following the second day of the NAIA Women's Track & Field Championship hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.

The Patriots scored seven points on day two to increase their total to 11 points following Thursday's results. Lindsey Wilson scored its lone point of the championship on Thursday.

All of Thursday's points from the Mid-South Conference institutions came from the 5,000-meter Race Walk.

Cumberlands' Ava Newkirk tallied four points for her fifth-place finish, and her teammate Heather Durrant picked up three points for finishing sixth. Lindsey Wilson's Eliza Hagens posted an eighth-place finish to garner one point.

Newkirk finished the race in 25 minutes and 17.47 seconds. Durrant crossed the finish line in 25:23.54, while Hagens posted a time of 26:27.94.

British Columbia leads the team standings with 44 points. Dickinson State (N.D.) is second with 25 points, followed by Taylor (Ind.) with 19 points in third.

Thirteen events are scheduled to be contested today on the final day of the championship.
