BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Indiana Tech’s Hayden Newberg has been named the Mid-South Conference Women’s Wrestler of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.
Hayden Newberg – Indiana Tech – Fr. – 145 pounds
- Newberg went 5-0 at the Tiffin Open, capturing the title in the 145-pound bracket.
- Two of her five victories came against ranked opponents.
- Newberg opened her tournament with a pin of Mount Union’s (Ohio) Calynn Briesemeister in 59 seconds.
- She then earned a 6-4 decision over Cumberlands’ (Ky.) Genesis Gilmore (No. 7 at 145 pounds).
- Newberg advanced to the finals with back-to-back tech falls 10-0 and 12-1.
- She captured the title with an 8-6 victory in overtime against Kori Campbell (No. 8 at 145 pounds) from Lindsey Wilson (Ky.)
- Newberg earns her first weekly honor this season.
