BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Five Mid-South Conference teams are ranked in the NAIA Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Preseason Top 20 Poll.
Defending national champions Life (Ga.) sit atop the poll with 193 points. The Running Eagles have two wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their respective weight classes. Zaynah McBryde holds the top spot at 138 pounds, while Latifah McBryde is first at 160 pounds. Life has 10 other grapplers ranked in their weight classes.
Cumberlands (Ky.) is also slotted in the top five, coming in fourth with 158 points. The Patriots finished third at the NAIA National Championships last season. Cumberlands has 12 wrestlers ranked, led by Micah Fisher-Miller at No. 2 in the 160-pound class.
Indiana Tech opens the season at No. 7 with 116 points. The Warriors posted a 10th-place finish at the national championships last year. Riley Dempewolf is the top-ranked wrestler at 207 pounds. Indiana Tech has an additional seven wrestlers ranked.
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is the final MSC team in the top 10. The Blue Raiders are slotted 10th with 99 points. Lindsey Wilson finished 16th at the national championships in its inaugural season last year. The Blue Raiders have nine wrestlers ranked, led by Hayeni Costa, who is ranked second at 207 pounds.
Campbellsville (Ky.) is slotted 19th in the poll with 53 points. The Tigers finished 12th last year at the national championships. Campbellsville has five wrestlers ranked, led by Olivia Messerly ranked eighth at 131 pounds.
Lourdes (Ohio) and Montreat (N.C.) are mentioned in the receiving votes section of the poll with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Lourdes has one wrestler ranked while Montreat has a pair of wrestlers ranked.
Grand View (Iowa) is ranked second with 167 points, while Providence (Mont.) is third with 161 points. William Penn (Iowa) rounds out the top five with 150 points.
