MARION, Ind. -- Cumberland (Tenn.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) both posted points on the first day of the NAIA Men's Track & Field Championship hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.

Cumberlands is tied for second with 10 points, while Cumberland is tied for eighth with six points.

Cumberlands' Luca Madeo captured the 10,000-meter national championship with a time of 30 minutes and 12.05 seconds. He beat his nearest competitor by nearly 12 seconds. For the win, Madeo earned the Patriots 10 points to vault them into the top-five.

Cumberland's Bett Kennedy finished third in the event to take home six points. He crossed the finish line in 30:26.32.

British Columbia leads the team standings with 20 points. Madonna (Mich.) and College of Idaho are tied with Cumberlands with 10 points.

Day two of the championship features the conclusion of the heptathlon, finals for the long jump, high jump, discus, 5,000-meter racewalk, and the 4x800-meter relay.

The NAIA Women's Track & Field Championship continues through Friday, May 23.
