BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Cumberlands’ (Ky.) Weston Melvin has been named the Mid-South Conference Men’s Wrestler of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.
Weston Melvin – Cumberlands (Ky.) – Sr. – 174 pounds – Washington Court House, Ohio
- Melvin went 5-0 capturing the title in the 174-pound bracket at the Conner Oppenheim Open.
- He recorded two ranked wins, three decisions and two major decisions.
- Melvin opened his tournament with a 10-3 decision over Morningside’s (Iowa) Braedyn Rakes (ranked No. 24).
- He then earned a 7-0 decision over Thomas Even of Grand View (Iowa).
- In the quarterfinals, Melvin picked up an 8-0 decision over Hunter Weimer of Concordia (Neb.).
- He advanced to the finals with a 14-4 major decision over Xayvion Anderson of Grand View.
- In the finals, Melvin earned an overtime decision against Orion Thivierge (ranked No. 20) of Montana State-Northern.
- He earns his first weekly honor this season.
