BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Cumberlands (Ky.) captured the 2025 Mid-South Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament championship today with a 3-1 win over Campbellsville (Ky.) at Bowling Green Arena.
The top-seeded Patriots earn the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament later this month with today's 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 win.
Cumberlands took control of the first set early, breaking a 7-7 tie with a 6-0 run for the 13-7 advantage. The Patriots extended the lead to as many as nine points en route to the 25-17 first-set win.
Cumberlands hit a remarkable .516 in the first frame, with 17 kills and one error in its 31 swings.
Sara Zampedri was the catalyst in the first set with seven of her match-high 18 kills coming in the set.
Each team struggled offensively in the second set, with both teams posting sub-.100 attacking percentage. The Patriots hit .081 while the Tigers posted a .079 attack in the set.
The Patriots sprinted out of the gates in the set, taking a 14-6 lead in the first 20 points. But the Tigers turned the tables, winning 12 of the next 14 points to take an 18-16 lead.
Campbellsville's Emily Aabye led the charge with a pair of kills and two blocks during the run.
Cumberlands ultimately regained its form and pulled even with the Tigers at 20-20.
After exchanging points to push the score to 21-all, the Patriots won the final four points of the set with a pair of kills and two Campbellsville attack errors to win 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead.
Campbellsville did something in the third set that few teams have been able to accomplish this season: take a set from the Patriots.
Of its 34 matches this season, Cumberlands had swept its opponent 30 times.
The Tigers used another impressive run midway through the third set. Trailing 15-11, Campbellsville scored four straight to tie the set at 15-all.
The two teams exchanged the next 10 points to enter the final stages of the set tied at 20-20.
Campbellsville seized control of the set with three straight points thanks to two kills by Riley Thorne and a service ace by Maddie Pennington to take a 23-20 lead.
Aabye did the rest for the Tigers with a pair of kills for the 25-22 set win and to cut the match deficit to 2-1.
In the fourth set, Cumberlands and Campbellsville exchanged early points, but the Patriots began their separation midway through the set with a 9-3 spurt to take a 19-12 lead. Campbellsville pulled within six (20-14), but Cumberlands won four of the last five points to take the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
Savanah Jolly led the Patriots with 48 assists and added 13 digs for the double-double. Autiana Wilson and Davey Slaughter each ended with a match-high 20 digs.
Campbellsville's Elif Akcivi led the Tigers with 15 kills while Thorne added 14.
Cumberlands wins the program's second tournament title and second in the past three seasons.
