Mid-South Conference Announces Football Players of the Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Cumberland's (Tenn.) Cannon Johnson and Jack Kanter and Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Max Gainey are the Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
 
MSC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Cannon Johnson – Cumberland (Tenn.) – Sr. – Defensive Back – Maryville, Tenn.
  • Johnson helped Cumberland hold the high-powered Florida Memorial offense to just 14 points while taking the ball away three times in a 41-14 win on Saturday.
  • He finished the game with four tackles, including a tackle for a loss.
  • Johnson added an interception and a pass breakup in the win.
  • He tied for the Mid-South Conference lead with two interceptions and is tied for 18th in the conference with 18 tackles.
  • Johnson earns his first weekly conference honor of the season.
 
MSC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Max Gainey – Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) – So. – Wide Receiver – Louisville, Ky.
  • Gainey caught nine passes for 230 yards in the Blue Raiders' 49-17 win at Union Commonwealth (Ky.) on Saturday.
  • The 230 receiving yards are a Lindsey Wilson program record.
  • Gainey also hauled in three touchdown catches, from 24, 27, and 71 yards.
  • He leads the MSC with 32 receptions, 739 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns.
  • Gainey earns his third weekly conference honor of the season.
 
MSC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Jack Kantner – Cumberland (Tenn.)  – Sr. – Kicker – Blue Ridge, Ga.
  • Kantner scored five points in Cumberland's win on Saturday.
  • He added 59.9 yards per kickoff, including a pair of touchbacks.
  • Kantner ranks fifth among Mid-South Conference kickers with 24 points this season. His three field goals are the third most in the conference.
  • Kantner earns his first Mid-South Conference weekly honor of the season.
