Nanpuya Captures National Championship; Seven Other MSC Wrestlers Earn All-American Honors

WICHITA, Kan. – Georgetown’s (Ky.) Navarro Nanpuya captured the National Championship at 184 pounds on the final day of the NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championship on Saturday at Heartland Credit Union Arena.

Nanpuya was the seventh seed in the 184-pound weight class. He faced top-seeded Tyson Beauperthuy of Doane (Neb.) in the finals. Nanpuya led 3-1 in after the first period and held a 6-1 advantage going into the third. Nanpuya added an escape, a take down and got the ride time point for the 11-2 victory.

Cumberland’s (Tenn.) Victor Guzman finished runner-up at 149 pounds. Guzman the fifth seed at squared off against No. 2 seed Elijah Larsen of Grand View (Iowa). Guzman recorded a takedown 57 seconds into the first period and led 3-1 heading into the second. Larsen took a 5-4 lead in the second period. Larsen scored two more points in the third to defeat Guzman 7-4.

Campbellsville (Ky.) finished ninth with 51.5 points. Georgetown finished 13th with 34 points, while Cumberland was 15th with 31.5. Cumberlands (Ky.) also finished in the top 20 with 28 points in 18th. Lindsey Wilson tallied 22.5 points to finish in 21st. Rio Grande (Ohio) rounds out the MSC teams in the standings with 8.5 points in 37th.
