WICHITA, Kan. - Cumberland’s (Tenn.) Victor Guzman and Georgetown’s (Ky.) Navarro Nanpuya advanced to the finals of the NAIA Men’s Wrestling Championship.
Guzman seeded fifth in the 149-pound bracket, earned a 12-6 decision over Life’s #4 Elvis Solis in the quarterfinals. He advanced to the finals with a 9-1 major decision over #8 Carlos Stanton of Arizona Christian. Guzman will square off against second-seeded Elijah Larsen of Grand View (Iowa) in the finals.
Nanpuya the seventh seed at 184 pounds earned an SV-1 4-3 decision over No. 2 seed Kendall Norfleet of Life (Ga.) . He then picked up a 9-5 decision over #3 Tre Morrisette of Life in the semifinals. #1 Tyson Beauperthuy of Doane (Neb.) awaits Nanpuya in the finals.
Campbellsville (Ky.) is the highest-ranked Mid-South Conference team in the standings coming in 10th with 46.5 points. Cumberland is 13th with 30.5 points, while Georgetown is right behind with 29. Cumberlands (Ky.) is also in the top 20 with 28 points in 17th. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) sits in 22nd with 21.5 points. Rio Grande (Ohio) rounds out the MSC teams in the standing with 8.5 points in 37th.
Campbellsville’s Izaeh Beavers (133), Cumberland’s Sammy Shires (141), Campbellsville’s Nik Yancey (149), Campbellsville's Jasitin Kubwimana (165), Campbellsville's Shadrick Slone (174), and Lindsey Wilson’s Ashton Habeil (184) all advanced to Saturday through the consolation brackets.
