Life Captures NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship; Twenty-One MSC Wrestlers Earn All-American Honors

WICHITA, Kan. – Life captured its second straight NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championship on Saturday at Heartland Credit Union Arena.
 
The Running Eagles tallied 169 points to capture the championship. William Penn (Iowa) finished in second with 158.5 points while Grand View (Iowa) was third with 145.5 points.
 
Two other MSC teams finished in the top 10. Indiana Tech finished seventh with 81.5 points, while Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) was right behind with 76. Cumberlands (Ky.) finished 12th with 39 points. Campbellsville rounds out the MSC teams in the standings with  22.5 points in 21st.
 
Life’s Jamilah McBryde captured the national championship at 145 pounds. McBryde defeated Southern Oregon’s Wieber 4-3 in the semifinals. In the finals, she earned a 9-6 decision over Wayland Baptist’s Jordan Suarez to capture the championship.
 
Indiana Tech’s Zoey Haney finished runner-up at 103 pounds. Haney reached the finals with a pin of Oklahoma City’s Alexis Miller in the semifinals. In the finals, she was defeated by Erin Hikiji of Providence (Mont.) 11-0.
 
Life’s Salyna Shotwell finished second at 117 pounds. Shotwell pinned Missouri Valley’s Zao Estrada in the semifinals. She was defeated 5-0 in the finals by William Penn’s Christianah Ogunsanya.
 
Rose Kaplan of Indiana Tech finished runner-up at 124 pounds. Kaplan earned a hard-fought 2-1 decision over Lindsey Wilson’s Kamilah Brooks to advance to the finals. She was defeated by Doane’s (Neb.) Cristelle Rodriguez 10-0 in the finals.
 
Life’s Olivia Mottley finished second at 131 pounds. Mottley defeated teammate Sarah Savidge in the semifinals 7-2. In the finals, she was defeated by Jumoke Adekoye of Dickinson State (S.D.).
 
Life’s Zaynah McBryde posted a runner-up finish in the 138-pound bracket. McBryde earned an 11-0 tech fall over Samantha Barragan of Texas Wesleyan. She was defeated 10-0 in the finals by Esther Kolawole of William Penn 10-0.
