BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Three of the top four seeds remain unbeaten at the conclusion of the first day of the Mid-South Conference Women's Bowling Tournament at Southern Lanes.

Top-seed Pikeville (Ky.), No. 2-seed Cumberland (Tenn.), and No. 4-seed Cumberlands (Ky.) advanced into the winner's bracket. The three high seeds are joined in the winner's bracket semifinals by No. 6-seed Shawnee State (Ohio), which upset second-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan

While the seeds almost held true, the match of the day came in the first round, where No. 9-seed Campbellsville knocked off eighth-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in a marathon match that took over four hours.

The Mid-South Conference implemented the Mega Match format this year to mirror the NAIA National Championships. The first set consists of the total number of pins from five bowlers in a traditional game. Set two is total pinfall in five Baker team games, and the third set, if necessary, is a best-of-seven Baker match.

Lindsey Wilson grabbed a 1-0 lead with an 868-767 opening set win. Campbellsville evened the match at 1-1 with an 806-796 win in set two. Drama followed in the third set, where, after seven Barker matches, the two teams were tied 3.5-3.5, forcing an eight Baker match. Campbellsville prevailed in the final game 183-160 to take the match 2-1.

No. 7-seed Union Commonwealth (Ky.) defeated No. 10-seed Brescia (Ky.) in the other first-round match.

Pikeville beat Campbellsville, and Cumberland beat Union Commonwealth by scores of 2-0 to advance. Cumberlands also won 2-0, beating fifth-seeded Midway (Ky.). Shawnee State pulled off the biggest upset of the day, with its 2-0 win.

Ten matches are scheduled for Friday, including seven elimination matches. All consolation matches will use the best-of-7 Baker format. The remaining winner's bracket matches will continue using the Mega Match.

Four matches begin at 8 a.m. CT.

Cumberlands meets Pikeville, and Cumberland plays Shawnee State in the winner's bracket. Campbellsville faces Brescia, and Lindsey Wilson and Union Commonwealth meet in elimination matches.

Midway and Tennessee Wesleyan await the consolation bracket winners. Those matches are set for 10:30 a.m. CT.

The consolation bracket finals, championship match, and the if-necessary championship is slated for Saturday.

The tournament champion earns the MSC's automatic bid into the NAIA National Championship.
