BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Georgetown's (Ky.) Ethan Freeland, Faulkner's (Ala.) Jacob Huff, and Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Khia Sherrard are the Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.
MSC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Ethan Freeland – Georgetown (Ky.) – Jr. – Defensive Back – Loveland, Ohio
- Freeland recorded 14 tackles and an interception to help the No. 9-ranked Tigers to a 34-17 win over Pikeville, which is receiving votes in the national poll.
- Freeland and the Tigers stymied the Bears in the second half, holding Pikeville scoreless after the break.
- He added a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in the win.
- Freeland earns his first weekly conference honor of his career.
MSC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Khia Sherrard – Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) – Gr. – Wide Receiver – Elizabethtown, Ky.
- Sherrard set program records for single-game receiving yards and yards per reception, and tied the program's single-game receiving touchdown record as Lindsey Wilson rolled past No. 10-ranked Texas Wesleyan 45-10.
- Sherrard caught five passes for 215 yards -- most in the NAIA in week one.
- He added three touchdown catches -- coming from 75, 42, and 31 yards.
- Sherrard earns his first weekly conference honor of his career.
MSC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Jacob Huff – Faulkner (Ala.) – So. – Kicker – Montgomery, Ala.
- Huff connected on both of his field goal attempts and his two extra point tries in Faulkner's 28-8 win over Point (Ga.).
- He hit a 50-yard field goal on the Eagles' first drive of the season to set a program record for the longest field goal.
- Huff added a 48-yard make, now the second longest in the program's history.
- He finished the night with eight points while averaging 63.5 yards per kickoff with three touchbacks.
- Huff earns his first weekly conference honor of his career.
