BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots kept their top-ten placement in the concluding regular-season NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, NAIA officials announced Wednesday.
Since the previous poll Cumberlands entered the Mid-South Conference Tournament as the #3 overall seed. The team made it to the championship after victories against Georgetown (Ky.) (6-0) and the #19 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders (3-2). They were bested in the finals by (RV) Campbellsville (Ky.) in overtime, 2-1.
The #16 Cumberland (Tenn.) Phoenix received the bye in the MSC Tournament as the #1-seed, but were ousted, just like the Patriots, by the Campbellsville Tigers. The #19 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders were victorious in their quarterfinal performance as the #2-seed, but then lost 3-2 to the Patriots in the semifinals of the MSC Tournament, 3-2.
William Carey (Miss.) sustained their top-placement with 12 first-place votes and 504 voting points. The rest of the top five stayed the same too: Marian (Ind.), Kesier (Fla.), Missouri Valley, and Oklahoma Wesleyan, in that order.
The postseason women's soccer poll is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, December 17th.
Poll Methodology
- The national poll is for publicity purposes only and does not influence the selection process for national championship consideration.
- A panel of head coaches representing each conference and the Continental Athletic Conference (Independents) votes in the poll.
- The Top 25 teams are selected using a points-based system:
- 30 points for a 1st-place vote, 29 for 2nd, 28 for 3rd, and so on.
- The highest and lowest rankings received by each team are discarded before final tallying.
- Teams receiving only one point are not listed as “receiving votes.”
- For the Preseason Poll, there is no "previous ranking" column since it is the initial poll and differs from the prior rating system.
