COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson's
Demi Serman and
Efua Asabel have been honored as the NAIA Women's Soccer Players of the Week, the national office announced on Tuesday.
Serman, the Blue Raiders' freshman goalkeeper, played a pivotal role in the (RV) Blue Raiders' pair of victories last week, recording back-to-back shutouts against ranked opponents. She blanked No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) on the road and No. 20 Georgia Gwinnett at home, earning her fourth and fifth clean sheets of the season.
In Wednesday's upset over the Patriots, Serman tallied five saves including four in the first half to help Lindsey Wilson secure its highest-ranked win in a decade. She followed up with another strong outing Sunday, making four saves against the Grizzlies to notch her fourth shutout in six matches.
Serman becomes the fourth goalkeeper in program history and the first since Maya Caon in 2021 to earn the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week honor.
On the offensive side, junior
Efua Asabel continued her standout play, scoring the game-winning goal in the 85th minute of the Blue Raiders' victory over No. 4 Cumberlands. The Cape Coast, Ghana native then delivered again on Sunday, netting the decisive goal in Lindsey Wilson's 2-0 win against No. 20 Georgia Gwinnett.
Asabel leads the team with six goals and 13 total points this season. She becomes the fourth Blue Raider and the first since Rayssa De Souza in 2021 to be named NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week.
Demi, Efua, and the (RV) Blue Raiders return to action at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, October 16, when they host No. 25 Tennessee Southern at Ray Wells Field inside Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
