Cortez, Almanzar Earn Mid-South Conference Baseball Weekly Honors
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-- Cumberlands’ (Ky.) Justin Cortez and Ronald Almanzar are the Mid-South Conference Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.
MSC Baseball Player of the Week
Ronald Almanzar - Cumberlands (Ky.) - Jr. - Bronx, NY.
- Almanzar batted .417 on the week to help No.9 Cumberlands go 3-0 on the week with three game sweep over Campbellsville University (Ky.)
- Almanzar had two three- hit performances against the Tigers and in game three he went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and six runs batted in.
- Almanzar’s final statline was 5-for-12, three home runs, one double, 10 RBIs, three walks, scored five runs, and had an on-base percentage of .533.
- Almanzar earns his second weekly conference honors of the season.
MSC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Justin Cortez - Cumberlands (Ky.) - Jr. - Hollister, CA.
- Cortez earned the win on the mound in his lone appearance to help No.9 Cumberlands to a sweep over Campbellsville, capturing the MSC Regular Season title for the fourth consecutive season.
- Cortez tossed five innings while allowing one run on one hit and striking out seven. He posted a .063 batting average against.
- Cortez improved his record to 3-0 on the year.
- Cortez earns his first weekly conference honors of the season
