BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) made it back-to-back Mid-South Conference Men's Tennis Tournament titles today with a 4-0 win over second-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) at the Warren County Tennis Facility.
The No. 5-ranked Blue Raiders (15-2) earn the MSC's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament in May in Mobile, Alabama.
Lindsey Wilson grabbed an early 1-0 lead after some dramatics during doubles action.
Raul Safont and Aldo Randazzo upset Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda -- who is the No. 7-ranked doubles team in the NAIA -- 7-6, winning the tiebreak 7-4 in the third-seeded match. The victory helped the Blue Raiders win two out of the three doubles matches to take home the first point of the day.
Lindsey Wilson's No. 18-ranked Lev Sholosh and Lucas Marques beat Jacopo Cianfarini and Mohammed Abuzed 6-4 on court one, while Cumberlands' Manuel Fernandez Guede and Kesia Roi beat Facundo Grasso and Miguel Mateo Larrea 6-1 on court two.
Safont won his second match of the day to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead. He posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Abuzed on court four to double Lindsey Wilson's advantage.
Larrea pushed the Blue Raiders on the brink of clinching the title with his 6-2, 6-2 win on court three over Solda for the 3-0 lead.
Grasso -- ranked No. 25 in the NAIA in singles -- secured the team win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kuster on court two to help Lindsey Wilson capture the program's conference-leading 17th MSC Tournament title.
The remaining matches were stopped when the Blue Raiders clinched. The Patriots (16-8) led in two of the matches, and the third match was tied at a set apiece.
Lindsey Wilson heads to the national tournament on a 13-match winning streak. Cumberlands -- based on its season -- should earn an at-large bid into the national tournament.
