Five Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Teams Win NAIA First-Round Games Today

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Five Mid-South Conference teams won their NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament First-Round games today at various sites across the NAIA.

Bethel (Tenn.), Campbellsville (Ky.), Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.), Georgetown (Ky.), and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) all won their tournament openers to advance to Saturday's second round. Saturday's winners advance to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa, March 19-24.

Cumberlands (Ky.) suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss today, ending its season.

 

No. 1 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) def. No. 16 Rust (Miss.), 77-53

Freed-Hardeman's Jenna Satterly led four Lions in double figures with 26 points in a 77-53 win over Rust (Miss.) today. The Lions advance to play No. 9-seed Bethel (Ind.) at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday at Freed-Hardeman. Read Freed-Hardeman's Recap

 

No. 5 Georgetown (Ky.) def. No. 12 Taylor (Ind.), 83-58

Georgetown's Kayra Freeman and Daisy Gale combined for 44 points, and the Tiger defense limited Taylor to just 30.4 percent shooting in an 83-58 win. Georgetown advances to face No. 4-seed Loyola (La.) at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in Georgetown. Read Georgetown's Recap

 

No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan def. No. 7 Cumberlands (Ky.), 76-69 OT

Indiana Wesleyan scored seven of the final nine points to upset Cumberlands 76-69 in overtime. Joy Kendrick led Cumberlands with 25 points. Read Cumberlands' Recap

 

No. 1 Bethel (Tenn.) def. No. 16 Talladega (Ala.), 67-51

No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) def. No. 14 Williams Baptist (Ark.), 87-67

Lindsey Wilson's Taylor Guess scored a game-high 35 points to lead the Blue Raiders to an 87-67 win over Williams Baptist. Lindsey Wilson advances to face No. 6 Southeastern (Fla.) at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama. Read Lindsey Wilson's Recap

 

No. 2 Campbellsville (Ky.) def. No. 15 Bryan (Tenn.), 91-49
