SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 5-seeded Georgetown College women's basketball team's (25-9) season came to an end with an 85-79 loss to No. 3-seeded Dakota State University (30-5) in the Quarterfinals of the 2026 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championships on Saturday afternoon in the Tyson Events Center.
Georgetown and Dakota State University had never met in women's basketball prior to today's matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown came out hot. The Tigers made their first four baskets to jump out to a quick 10-0 lead. The Trojans countered with seven of their own and had things tied up at 14-14 by the 5:01 mark. It took nearly seven minutes for the Trojans to capture their first lead of the day, building out as much as a six-point lead before
Jordan Day scored the final basket of the period, making it a 22-18 game.
The start of the second quarter brought a Dakota State run. The Trojans used a 5-0 run to push ahead 27-18 before
Addesa Miller sank a 3-pointer to get the Tigers in the books. In fact, Miller got hot in the second, sinking all 10 of her points in the period, with three 3-pointers. Georgetown trailed 48-37 at the break as the Trojans scored a game-high 26 points in the frame.
As they've done all season, the Tigers came out ready to fight in the third. Despite falling behind 57-40 just a few minutes into the period, Georgetown responded slowly and steadily.

Anna Long nailed a 3-pointer to make it just a one-possession game heading into the fourth, 66-63.
The Tigers hung around in the early stages of the fourth, pulling within one after

Anna Long on the next possession helped Georgetown get back in the lead, 72-71, their last lead of the day. Over the next three minutes, Dakota State put the game away with a crucial 11-0 run that was broken by a
Kayra Freeman bucket with 2:21 to play. Georgetown fell 85-79 as the Trojans converted key free throws down the stretch.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 37.8% from the field. The Tigers were 12-28 (42.9%) from deep and were 11-19 (57.9%) at the free-throw line. DSU outrebounded GC, 54-35. The Tigers picked up 14 assists and created nine steals.
