BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Campbellsville’s (Ky.) Tate Wischnack threw out Freed-Hardeman's (Tenn.) Austin Johnson at the plate to end the game and preserve a 4-3 win over the Lions tonight in the Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Fifth-seeded Campbellsville (32-18) advances to play top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) at 3 p.m. CT in another elimination game. The winner plays No. 2 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) in the championship game later that night.
Trailing by a single run, Freed-Hardeman loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning. Cade Fuller lifted a fly ball to right field, which Wischnack collected and threw a strike to clip Johnson at the plate in a bang-bang play to secure the win.
The Tigers took an early 3–0 lead only to have third-seeded Freed-Hardeman chip away and ultimately tie the game in the fifth inning.
After surrendering the lead, the Campbellsville trio of relievers, PJ Ledesma, Logan Macniel, and Chase Tucker, shut down Freed-Hardeman, scattering three hits over four scoreless innings.
Campbellsville scored the decisive run in the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead. Antony Gilbert led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a Yosuke Fujie triple to centerfield.
Trent Buchanan led the Tigers' offensive brigade with three RBIs, going 2-for-5 at the plate. Fujie went 2-for-4, tallying an RBI. Campbellsville out-hit the Lions 12-7.
