BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Eric Leach has resigned as Mid-South Conference commissioner effective May 14, conference officials announced on Thursday.

"On behalf of our Mid-South institutions, coaches, and the thousands of students we serve, it is my privilege to express gratitude to Eric Leach for his leadership of this conference," said Dr. Joseph Hopkins, Campbellsville University president and chair of the Council of Presidents. "As Commissioner Leach steps down to pursue his dream of creating a new business, he leaves behind a conference recognized as a national leader in competition, character, and innovation.  We are thankful for his service to our students and communities and look forward to the days ahead as we conclude our search for the next commissioner."

Leach became the conference’s fifth full-time commissioner on July 1, 2023. During his time at the Mid-South, MSC member institutions won seven NAIA Team National Championships. He helped the conference expand its championship venues, including playing the 2025 MSC Softball Tournament in Clarksville, Tennessee. Leach also increased the conference's corporate sponsorships.

"I would like to thank the Mid-South Conference for a tremendous opportunity to be their commissioner," Leach said. "I have a great deal of respect for our member institutions and the high level of achievement they produce on the field and in the classroom.

"I will treasure my time working alongside them and will now become a spectator, cheering them all on," Leach added. "The Mid-South has been and will continue to be one of the leaders in the NAIA both on and off the field."

Associate Commissioner Chris Wells has been named interim commissioner.

A national search is underway for the next Mid-South Conference commissioner.
