BOWLING GREEN, Ky. --
Second-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) scored 10 unanswered runs to turn a deficit into an 11-4 win over top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) today at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Phoenix (36-15-1) entered the bottom of the third inning trailing 2-0, but scored three times in the inning to take the lead for good. Cumberland scored twice in the fourth and four more runs in the fifth to take a 9-2 lead.

Using a balanced offensive attack -- six different players drove in a run -- the Phoenix ended Cumberlands' 11-game MSC Tournament winning streak. The Patriots' last conference tournament loss came on May 8, 2022.

While the offense was cruising, Carter Rost overcame a shaky start to pick up the win to improve to 8-0 this season. Rost gave up two runs and four hits in the first three innings. He finished the game allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out 11 over 8-1/3 innings.

Toshiki Kuriya and Gaines Haussin led the Phoenix with three hits each. Cumberland out-hit the Patriots 15-8 in the win.

Cumberland advances to the championship game -- its first appearance in the finals since the 2019 season. The Phoenix's last MSC Tournament title came in a 10-8 win over Georgetown (Ky.) during the 2014 tournament.

Cumberland meets the team that emerges from the consolation bracket. Cumberlands, Campbellsville, and Freed-Hardeman all remain in the win-or-go-home bracket. Cumberland already owns wins over all three teams in the tournament.
