The Racers (19-5) edged the Blue Raiders (15-4) in a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final singles match on court two.
Lindsey Wilson dropped the doubles point after UNOH claimed wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 spots. Carlos Hernandez and Lucas Perez gave the Racers the early edge with a 6-2 win at No. 2. Although
Aldo Randazzo and
German Delcanto answered with a 6-4 win at No. 3, the No. 11-ranked duo of Francisco Perez and Lucas Grana secured the point with a 6-3 decision over No. 13-ranked
Santiago Passoni and
Hans Schubert at the top spot.
Trailing 1-0, the Blue Raiders responded in singles.
Hans Schubert, ranked No. 30 in the nation, tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Mete Koseoglu. UNOH then surged ahead 3-1 behind straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 from Grana and Florian Smalto, respectively.
Marcal Miret, ranked No. 44, brought Lindsey Wilson back into the fight with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Hernandez. Passoni followed with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 victory over No. 18-ranked Lucas Perez at No. 3, leveling the match at 3-3.
That left the decisive point to be played on court two, where No. 4-ranked Perez faced No. 40-ranked Delcanto. After splitting the first two sets, Perez held on to clinch the match and the Racers' spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win.
With the loss, Lindsey Wilson's season comes to a close in the second round of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships.
