Lindsey Wilson beats Georgetown in an Elimination Game to Open MSC Baseball Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –
No. 7 seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) pounded out a season-high 21 hits and Jacob Jackson held sixth-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) hitless through six innings to help the Blue Raiders to a 16-3 win in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Blue Raiders (9-37) advance to the double-elimination tournament to face top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) at 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday.

Jackson (1-2) kept the Tigers (13-34) at bay for most of the game, limiting Georgetown to two runs on two hits over his six-plus innings. He finished with five strikeouts en route to his first win of the season.

The Lindsey Wilson offense scored in six of the eight innings in the shortened game, including three runs in the first inning and two runs in each of the second and third innings. A seven-run eighth inning capped off the big night for the Blue Raiders.

Chance Stayton and Amir Pineiro led the Blue Raiders with four hits each. Stayton also homered and finished with three runs batted in. Matt Schultz also hit a home run while producing a three-hit game and three RBIs. In all, seven Blue Raiders had multi-hit nights.

Luis Sosa had two hits for the Tigers and Jarrett Chapman added a hit and two RBIs in the season-ending loss.

The game featured a two-hour and 10-minute weather delay in the bottom of the first inning.

Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands meet in the first of three winner’s bracket games on Wednesday. No. 2 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) plays fifth-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) at 2:30 p.m. CT while No. 3 seed Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) meets fourth-seeded Bethel (Tenn.) in the nightcap at 6 p.m. CT.
