Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week Announced

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Campbellsville's (Ky.) Ashton Auker, Georgetown's (Ky.) John Carter Myers, and Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Davontaye Saunders are the Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.
 
MSC Football Defensive Player of the Week
John Carter Myers – Georgetown (Ky.) – Sr. – Defensive Back – Glasgow, Ky.

  • Myers provided a complete effort in helping Georgetown to a 35-28 come-from-behind win over Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday.
  • He recorded six tackles, forced a fumble, and had an interception in the win.
  • His 34-yard interception return set up the game-winning rushing touchdown with just over five minutes to play in the game.
  • Myers added a pass breakup and a shared tackle for a loss.
  • He is tied for eighth in the MSC with 51 tackles this season. His seven pass breakups is fourth best in the conference.
  • With the win, Georgetown improves to 6-3 on the season and 3-2 in the Mid-South Conference.
  • Myers earns his first weekly conference honor of the season.
 
MSC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Davontaye Saunders – Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) – Jr. – Running Back – Eminence, Ky.
  • Saunders set a pair of program records on Saturday in the Blue Raiders' 56-37 win over visiting Cumberland (Tenn.).
  • He ran for a single-game program record 299 yards in the win while adding three rushing touchdowns. His touchdown runs came from 45, 69, and 73 yards.
  • Saunders ended the game averaging 21.4 yards per carry in his 14 attempts while leading the Blue Raiders to 605 total yards of offense in the game.
  • He also broke the single-season rushing record in the game. Saunders sits at 1,410 yards with one regular-season game remaining.
  • He leads the Mid-South Conference and NAIA in rushing, averaging 156.7 rushing yards per game.
  • Lindsey Wilson improves to 8-1 on the season and 4-1 in the MSC with the win.
  • Saunders earns his fourth weekly conference honor this season.
 
MSC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Ashton Auker – Campbellsville (Ky.) – Jr. – Wide Receiver – Knoxville, Tenn.
  • Auker set the tone for Campbellsville by returning the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in the Tigers' 38-9 win over Faulkner (Ala.) on Saturday.
  • It marks the second time this season he has opened the game with a kickoff return touchdown. The touchdown ignited Campbellsville, which ultimately led 24-0 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Auker averaged 59.0 yards per return on his two attempts.
  • Auker finished the game averaging 66.5 yards per kickoff return.
  • The 98-yard return is the longest in the Mid-South Conference this season.
  • Auker's 34.3 yards per kickoff return this season is second best in the MSC. His two touchdown returns lead the conference.
  • Auker earns his second weekly conference honor of his career.
