COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team takes down Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Thursday at Parnell Family Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (9-4-2) fired off 16 total shots, with eight on goal, while Freed-Hardeman (0-15-1) managed four shots, including one on goal.
In the first half, the Blue Raiders and Lions were locked in a hard-fought battle, feeling each other out while trying to score the opening goal. Freed-Hardeman's Hadley Husband took the first shot of the game in the 12th minute but couldn't convert. Lindsey Wilson's first chance came off a corner kick from
Amanda Parreiras, as
Alexandra Giusti's header missed just wide right to keep things scoreless. After trading a few shots, the Blue Raiders finally broke through when
Efua Asabel found space on the far left side and fired a shot that hit the right side of the net in the 23rd minute to put Lindsey Wilson ahead 1-0 .
The second half consisted of both teams continuing to feel each other out as the Blue Raiders held firm on their one-goal lead. Both sides battled for control in the midfield, trading possessions and pushing for opportunities. After several close chances, the Blue Raiders finally broke through in the 79th minute when Asabel scored her second goal of the game right down the middle, assisted by
Sharon Nadunga, to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead over the Lions.
Lindsey Wilson will be back on the field against Cumberlands (Ky.) in the MSC Semifinals next week at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. The date and time will be announced later by conference officials.
