Bethel Men's Soccer Survives and Advances to MSC Semifinals

MCKENZIE, Tenn.
 -The No. 2-seeded and 14th ranked Bethel Wildcats advanced to the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Wednesday night with a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over Georgetown College.

Georgetown struck first in the 16th minute when Austin Pickerell finished a setup from Xavier Hale, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead they would hold deep into the second half. Bethel poured on the pressure, outshooting Georgetown 19-2 for the match and finally broke through in the 79th minute when Ishmael Fuseini buried a header off a cross from Horace Avila Jr., tying the game at 1-1.

With just seconds into the first overtime period, the Wildcats completed the comeback. Souleymane Balde netted the Golden Goal in the 92nd minute—again assisted by Avila Jr.—to lift Bethel to a thrilling 2-1 win.

Goalkeeper Diego Camargo faced just one shot on goal for Bethel, while Georgetown's Simon Heine kept his team in the game with seven saves.

Bethel dominated possession and corners (14-2) and moved to 10-1-2 overall, while Georgetown closed its season at 2-10-1. The Wildcats will now advance to the conference semifinals next week. Bethel will host the winner of the Freed-Hardeman/ Lindsey Wilson game which will be Thursday.
