Late-Inning Comebacks and Pitching Battles Highlight Day Three of MSC Softball Tournament

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Day three of the 2026 Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament featured dominant pitching, clutch late-game hitting, and multiple tightly contested finishes at Marilyn D. Sparks Park at the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park.

No. 4 seed Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and No. 3 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) split earlier decisions in the day, while No. 1 seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) edged No. 2 seed Cumberlands (Ky.) 3-2.Campbellsville closed the night with a 5-4 win over Freed-Hardeman to stay alive in the consolation bracket.

4) Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) def. 6) Cumberland (Tenn.) - 11-0 (5 inns.)
Freed-Hardeman (21-20) rode a dominant all-around performance to roll past Cumberland (18-24) 11-0 in a run-rule victory.

Katy Gartrell led the way in the circle, tossing a complete-game two-hitter while striking out seven and walking two in the shutout win.

The Lady Lions broke the game open early, scoring six runs in the first inning. Alivia Eggleston delivered the big blow with a three-run home run, while Karli Quillin and Chloe Carter each added RBI to extend the lead.

Freed-Hardeman added five more runs in the third inning behind RBI hits from Eggleston, Lynnlee Brown, and Christa Warren to put the game out of reach.

With the win, Freed-Hardeman advances in the consolation bracket to play Campbellsville, while Cumberland is eliminated.
 
3) Campbellsville (Ky.) def. 5) Georgetown (Ky.) – 3-2
Campbellsville (29-17) capitalized on key opportunities to edge Georgetown (17-22) 3-2 in a tightly contested matchup.

The Tigers struck first in the second inning, taking advantage of a Georgetown error to plate the game’s opening run, before adding another in the fourth on an RBI double from Macy McCoy.

Georgetown answered in the fifth inning, tying the game at 2-2 behind a sacrifice fly from Kylie Miller and an RBI single from Ainsley Herron.

Campbellsville responded in the sixth, regaining the lead after another Georgetown error allowed the go-ahead run to score, which proved to be the difference.

With the win, Campbellsville advances in the consolation bracket, while Georgetown is eliminated.
 
1) Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) def. 2) Cumberlands (Ky.) 3-2
Lindsey Wilson (40-6) used timely hitting and a strong performance in the circle to edge Cumberlands (35-17) 3-2 in a tightly contested matchup.

The Patriots struck first in the opening inning on an RBI single from Makenzie Henderson, but Lindsey Wilson answered immediately with a solo home run from Sam Hartman to even the score.

Cumberlands regained the lead in the second inning when Jenna Fabela launched a solo home run, giving the Patriots a 2-1 advantage.

Lindsey Wilson responded late, tying the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run from Hannah Carter before taking the lead in the sixth on an RBI single from Natalie Wandrie.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson advances in the winner’s bracket, while Cumberlands moves to the consolation bracket.
 
3) Campbellsville (Ky.) def. 4) Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) - 5-4
Campbellsville (31-16) used a late rally to beat Freed-Hardeman (22-21) 5-4 in a back-and-forth matchup.

Freed-Hardeman struck first in the opening inning on an RBI single from Alivia Eggleston, but Campbellsville answered quickly with a two-run double from Karleigh Walker to take a 2-1 lead.

The Lady Lions regained momentum in the second and third innings, getting solo home runs from Hannah Jones, Myleah Hardy, and Lynnlee Brown to build a 4-2 advantage.

Campbellsville chipped away in the third on an RBI double from Macy McCoy before completing the comeback in the sixth inning. A bunt RBI single from Lydia Jones tied the game, and Jessie Daniels followed with an RBI single to give the Tigers the go-ahead run.

With the win, Campbellsville advances to play Cumberlands at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, while Freed-Hardeman is eliminated.
