BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- No. 7-seed Bethel (Tenn.) pulled off its second upset in as many nights, beating third-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) 80-76 tonight in the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Semifinals at Bowling Green Arena.
The Wildcats (18-11) advance to Monday's championship game against top-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). Tip-off for the tournament finals is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
Bethel scored the final four points of overtime to outlast the Patriots (23-7).
Ethan Turner scored and was fouled with 15.2 seconds left in overtime to give the Wildcats the lead for good. He hit the subsequent free throw to give Bethel a 79-76 lead. Turner finished the game with 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Following an empty Cumberlands' possession, Brayden Nunnally made one of two free throws with 7.4 seconds left to seal back-to-back upsets. On Saturday, Bethel beat No. 2-seed Georgetown (Ky.) 82-74.
Bethel overcame a 12-point halftime deficit in the win. The Wildcats outscored the Patriots 24-11 in the first 7:31 of the second half to take a 49-48 lead. Over the last 12-plus minutes of regulation, the two teams had five lead changes and five ties.
David Starr -- the H&W-Dukes Sports Player of the Game -- scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half. He also had eight assists in the win.
Cumberlands' Javecckio Thomas led the Patriots with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
