BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- No. 7-seed Bethel (Tenn.) flipped the script to pull off the biggest upset of the tournament to this point with an 82-74 win over second-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) in the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Quarterfinals today at Bowling Green Arena.
The Wildcats advance to Sunday's second semifinal and will play the winner of No. 3-seed Cumberlands (Ky.) and sixth-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) at 7:30 p.m. CT.
Bethel (18-11) trailed Georgetown 46-33 three minutes into the second half and 52-42 with 14:08 left in regulation. That's when the Wildcats turned the tables on the Tigers (22-7).
Bethel used the next five minutes to pull even at 57-all with 9:26 left and ultimately built a 77-66 lead with 2:29 remaining in regulation. Over the 11-plus minutes, the Wildcats outscored Georgetown 35-14 to snag their largest lead of the game.
H&W-Dukes Sports Player of the Game Alonzo Rhodes Jr. and Chauncey Hughes III paced the Wildcats to the come-from-behind win. Rhodes posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Hughes added a game-high 27 points.
The Wildcat defense limited Georgetown to just 34.4 percent from the field in the second half after the Tigers shot nearly 49 percent in the opening half. Bethel also forced the Tigers into 16 turnovers.
Isaiah Mason led five Tigers in double digits with 18 points.
