BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Top-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) won today's second championship match to capture the Mid-South Conference Men's Bowling Tournament title over No. 3-seed Pikeville (Ky.) at Southern Lanes.

The MSC Tournament title is the second tournament championship in the program's history and the first since the inaugural MSC Tournament in 2013.

The tournament went the distance, with the final match going to a seventh and final Baker game to determine the champion.

Cumberland ultimately prevailed 4-3 (259-215, 197-221, 235-173, 214-244, 246-221, 213-214, 230-165) to add the tournament title to its regular-season crown.

Cumberland bounced back after falling to the Bears in the first championship match this morning.

Using the Mega Match format, Pikeville won today's first match against the Phoenix 2-0.

The Mid-South Conference implemented the Mega Match format this year to mirror the NAIA National Championships. The first set consists of the total number of pins from five bowlers in a traditional game. Set two is total pinfall in five Baker team games, and the third set, if necessary, is a best-of-seven Baker match.

The Bears won the first set of the Mega Match 1,175-1,093. The Pikeville score included a perfect game from Quinn Tillman to help the Bears take a 1-0 lead.

In the second match, Pikeville continued its hot play with a 1,157-1,012 win to take the match. The Bears outscored Cumberland in four of the five Baker games to extend the tournament to an if-necessary championship match.

The win was Pikeville's second of the day, as the Bears swept No. 7-seed Shawnee State (Ohio) 4-0 (232-200, 247-227, 295-218, 259-236) in a best-of-seven Baker match in the consolation bracket finals.

Cumberland earns the MSC's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament.
