BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- No. 2-seed Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) outscored No. 7-seed Cumberland (Tenn.) 22-7 in the first quarter and cruised to a 73-58 win in the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Quarterfinals today at Bowling Green Arena.
The Lions (25-3) advance to face the winner of No. 3-seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and No. 6-seed Cumberlands (Ky.) in the second semifinal on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
Freed-Hardeman scored 11 of the first 12 points in the game, never trailing in the win. The Lions shot nearly 47 percent in the first stanza while limiting the Phoenix (15-14) to just 2-of-15 shooting in the first quarter.
The Lions extended that lead to as many as 20 in the second quarter before Cumberland made a run to end that half, trailing 36-24 at the half.
Cumberland closed within eight points three minutes into the third quarter before the Lions extended the lead back to double digits en route to the win.
Player of the Game Lilly Kee led the Lions with 24 points. Ally Weathers contributed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Cumberland's Braley Bushman led all scorers with 30 points.
