BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- No. 5-seed Georgetown (Ky.) erased a 22-point second-half deficit to upset No. 4-seed Campbellsville (Ky.) 74-71 in the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Quarterfinals today at Bowling Green Arena.
The Tigers (22-7) advance to face top-seeded Bethel (Tenn.) in the tournament semifinals on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon CT.
Georgetown used a 21-12 run over the final eight minutes of the third quarter to close within 13 points (62-49) entering the final quarter. The Tigers continued their run into the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 65-61 midway through the quarter.
Player of the Game Kayra Freeman and Daisy Gale led the charge. Freeman finished with 28 points and four rebounds, while Gale added 21 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, and seven rebounds.
While the Georgetown offense was instrumental in the comeback, the Tiger defense set the tone in the fourth quarter, limiting Campbellsville (22-7) to just 4-of-15 shooting from the field.
Gale's layup with 2:27 left in regulation tied the game at 69-69. It was the last field goal for Georgetown in the game.
Georgetown sealed the game at the free-throw line, making 5-of-6 freebies to claim the win.
Campbellsville's Dea Bradley led the Tigers with 23 points and nine rebounds.
