Cumberlands Wins MSC Men’s Wrestling Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Cumberlands (Ky.) captured the Mid-South Conference Men’s Wrestling Tournament title Friday at Ephram White Gymnasium.

The Patriots capture their second straight tournament title and fifth overall. Cumberlands edged out Cumberland (Tenn.) by 2.5 points 168-165.5 to capture the championship. Campbellsville (Ky.) finished third with 156 points.

Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) came in fourth with 130 points, while Georgetown (Ky.) placed fifth with 115 points. Rio Grande (Ohio) and Midway (Ky.) round out the team standings with 49 and 42.5 points, respectively.

Campbellsville had the most individual champions with four. Izaeah Beavers (133), Nik Yancey (149), Antwaun Burns (157), and Jastin Kubwimana all captured titles for the Tigers.
Navarro Nanpuya (184), Marcus James (197), and Luke Cox (285) all earned championships for Georgetown. Matteo Varga (125) and Weston Melvin (174) won titles for Cumberlands while Adrian Ayala (141) captured the lone championship for Lindsey Wilson.

All 10 winners earn first-team all-conference honors, with the runner-up finishers receiving second-team honors, and third-place finishers earning third-team all-conference.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, Ayala was named the Deno White MSC Wrestler of the Tournament while James earned Freshman of the Year honors. Cumberland’s James Hicks was named the MSC Coach of the Year, and Georgetown’s Kyle Homet earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors. The MSC Wrestler of the Year will be named following the NAIA National Tournament.
