CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) Wins the 2025 Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament with a 4-0 shutout over second-seeded Runners-up Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) Saturday at Cathi Maynard Park.
With the win, the Patriots claim the conference championship and an NAIA Tournament berth, while Runners-up Freed-Hardeman’s fantastic season will be determined by May 7th at 5 P.M. C.T. In the NAIA Softball Selection Show.
Cumberlands plated runs in four separate innings while holding Freed-Hardeman scoreless behind dominant pitching and clutch defense. Lindsey Shope earned the win with 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and striking out five. Jessica Cord came on in relief to notch the save, retiring all four batters she faced.
Amber Gainer sparked the offense with a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first and came around to score the game's opening run. The Patriots added a run in the second on an RBI single from Carly Oliver. Aniyah White contributed a pair of hits, including an RBI single in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Jade Gainer drew two walks and scored three times for the Patriots, while Cumberlands’ defense turned in a clean sheet with no errors on the day.
Freed-Hardeman managed five hits, including a double by Christa Warren, but couldn't string together offense against the Cumberlands' pitching duo. Katy Gartrell took the loss, allowing two earned runs over 3.1 innings.
