DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Lindsey Wilson football team's season ended on Saturday with a 35-7 loss to top-ranked Grand View (Iowa) in the NAIA Football Championship Series Quarterfinals at Mediacom Stadium.
Grand View (12-0) scored on its opening drive and ultimately led 14-0 at the half.
The No. 7-seeded Blue Raiders (10-2) had their best first-half chance to score against the NAIA's third-best scoring defense early in the second quarter. Trailing 14-0, Lindsey Wilson marched into the red zone with a 15-play, 71-yard drive. But the drive stalled and ended at the Grand View 7-yard line.
After giving up the two early scores, the Lindsey Wilson defense settled in and forced the Vikings into a punt and a failed field goal attempt due to a bad snap on Grand View's next two possessions.
The Vikings extended their lead to 21-0 before the Blue Raiders scored their only touchdown of the day.
The defense started the drive for Lindsey Wilson with the lone takeaway of the day on a forced fumble by Sammy Taylor. Tate Rice connected with Taborie Reed three plays later for a 9-yard touchdown pass to trim the deficit to 21-7 with three seconds left in the third quarter.
But Grand View stymied the Lindsey Wilson momentum on the ensuing kickoff as Isaac Kracl returned the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown for the 28-7 lead.
Grand View outgained the Blue Raiders 375-224 in total yards during the game.
Rice finished 17-of-29 for 123 passing yards. Max Gainey led the receivers with six catches for 59 yards. Khaleb Bridges led the Blue Raider defense with eight tackles, including seven solo stops. Taylor contributed seven tackles.
Lindsey Wilson closes out the season with the program's eighth 10-win season and its sixth Mid-South Conference regular-season title.
