BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Bethel's (Tenn.) Darrien Lewis, Georgetown's (Ky.) Drew Rader, and Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Davontaye Saunders are the Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.
MSC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Darrien Lewis – Bethel (Tenn.) – Sr. – Linebacker – Brighton, Tenn.
- Lewis led the Bethel defense with 16 tackles in a 28-24 win over visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday.
- He finished the game with six solo tackles and a tackle for a loss.
- Lewis added an interception and helped the Wildcats' defense to a goal-line stand late in the game to preserve the win.
- He leads the Mid-South Conference, averaging 10 tackles per game and is second in the conference with 5-1/2 tackles for a loss.
- With the win, Bethel improves to 3-2 on the season, including winning three straight games.
- He earns his first weekly conference honor of his career.
MSC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Davontaye Saunders – Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) – Jr. – Running Back – Eminence, Ky.
- Saunders tallied 207 rushing yards (12.2 per carry) and 59 receiving yards in a 62-13 win over visiting Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday.
- He finished the game with five touchdowns, four rushing and one receiving.
- Saunders had touchdown runs of 61, 57, 5, and 1 yards while hauling in a 36-yard touchdown reception in the win.
- He became the fourth different rusher in program history to compile over 200 rushing yards in a single game.
- Saunders' 266 all-purpose yards are third-most all-time in Lindsey Wilson history.
- He leads the Mid-South Conference in rushing, averaging 137 rushing yards per game, and rushing touchdowns (11).
- Saunders earns his third weekly conference honor this season and the fourth of his career.
MSC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Drew Rader – Georgetown (Ky.) – Sr. – Kicker/Punter – Wooster, Ohio
- Rader averaged 45.8 yards per punt to help Georgetown to a 37-35 win at Faulkner (Ala.) on Saturday.
- His four punts tallied 183 yards while pinning the Eagles inside the 20-yard line four times, including downing one of the punts to the 1-yard line.
- Rader's longest punt during the game went for 60 yards.
- He ranks second in the Mid-South Conference this season, averaging 42.2 yards per punt. Rader is tied for the most punts inside the 20-yard line with 12.
- Rader earns his first weekly conference honor of the season and his fifth of his career.
