Georgetown Defeats Cumberland 85-67 in MSC Women’s Basketball Quarterfinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Third-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) defeated No. 6 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) 85-67 in the MSC Women's Basketball Quarterfinals Friday at Studle Financial Arena.

With the victory, the Tigers advance to Sunday's semifinals where they will face No. 2 seed Cumberlands (Ky.) at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Following the conclusion of the game, Georgetown's Izzy Lamparty was named the H&W Dukes Sports Player of the Game. Lamparty scored a game-high 22 points on 11-of-12 shooting while also recording six rebounds.

Teionni McDaniel scored 17 points while Ellie Wilkerson and Trinity Klock were also in double figures with 14 and 11, respectively.

Georgetown began the game scoring six of the first eight points. Cumberland then scored six of the next nine points to trim the Tigers lead to 9-8. The Tigers ended the first quarter on an 11-4 run as they led 20-12.

The Tigers began the second quarter scoring the first eight points as they extended their lead to 28-12. The Phoenix trailed 32-15 before a quick 5-0 run made it 32-20 with 4:29 to play in the first half. Georgetown then went on a 6-2 run to increase its lead to 38-22. The Phoenix then scored seven of the next seven of the next 11 points to trim their deficit to 42-29. Georgetown ended the first half on a 6-0 run to lead 48-29.

Cumberland outscored Georgetown 19-18 in the third quarter to trim the Tigers lead to 66-48 heading into the fourth quarter. The two teams were even in the fourth quarter each scoring 19 points as the Tigers got the 85-67 victory.

Kayla Gordon led the Phoenix with 19 points while Lindsey Freeman scored 16. Emaleigh Tarpley was also in double figures with 10.
