Cumberlands Wins the 2024 MSC Men's Soccer Championship 11/13/2024 8:41:03 PM Columbia, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) has won the 2024 Men’s Soccer Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship. The Patriots upset No.1 seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) as regulation and overtime proved futile. Cumberlands would take the championship in penalty kicks 4-2. This match started hot, as Lindsey Wilson’s high-powered offense scored first. Only 1:43 minutes in, Lindsey Wilson’s Jaland Larmond struck it top right, giving the Blue Raiders an early lead. The first-half scoring wouldn’t stop there as Cumberlands tied up the match late in the first half. In the 43rd minute, Carles Diez Herrero would equalize it for the Patriots, assisted by Emil Skursch to knot the match 1-1. After getting scored on early, Cumberlands emphasized ball control, getting the last five shots of the half. The second half was a defensive battle, with both teams playing it safe to limit mistakes. Lindsey Wilson had a couple of great opportunities to regain the lead, but Cumberlands’ goalie Javiero Izquierdo Cuervo came up huge in the clutch, totaling four saves. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, after two overtime periods, both teams still sat at a stalemate. The game was forced to go into penalty kicks to decide it, after both squads picked their best players, Cumberlands came out as the victor in the 4-2 decision. The Men’s Soccer Championships will be held at various locations around the nation. 2:00 P.M. C.T. November 16th the NAIA’s selection show will announce the first round, slated to begin November 21st.
